| Flexible Feeding - a brief overview Flexible feeding systems incorporate vision guided robots to pick parts off of a conveyor system. The operator simply needs to place the parts in bulk in a hopper and the parts are automatically laid on the conveyor. The vision system indexes the parts on the conveyor, determining how the part needs to be picked up, and then places it in an assembly or test unit. The primary advantages are: labor savings, as the robot can now determine part orientation; hardware savings, as the unit can adapt via software when part families undergo design changes; easy production of part families, as the system can determine differing parts within the same family - no tooling differences.
